The 1972 MGB came into our family in December of 1984. We were the third owner of the car, and the seller hadn't driven it much for the past couple of years due to an "addition to his family". He had very complete records on the car, and it had won some concourse events earlier in it's life. It needed a bit of work, and I was happy to "adopt" it. It was a fun vehicle, although not particularly reliable (it was a British sports car, remember) and during it's stay with us, it didn't make any lengthy trips.
Like any sports car of it's vintage, it required pretty constant attention to keep "purring". Given the proper attention, it was a lot of fun,
During the time I had it, I re-upholstered the seats, re-covered the dash, replaced the steering wheel, muffler and tires as well as doing a modest bit of maintenance/repair (although at one time, Carol remarked that I spent almost as much time working on it as driving it).
When Dino, the Miata, came into our lives in July of 1989, the MGB had to move on. After advertising it in the paper with no takers (there were a couple of lookers that I was pleased didn't buy...I didn't feel they would give it a good home) I parked it in the drive with a "for sale" sign. One afternoon a man stopped by, made an offer and took it home with him. It was the guy I had bought it from!! He and his wife had often wished that they still had the little gem, and were pleased to get it back. I had continued to keep the records he provided me when I bought it, and was all set to finish the "restoration" I had started.
